One of the first things a Product Owner or Product Manager should do is to create a product vision. But what exactly is a product vision, why do we need one and what does it look like?

These were exactly the questions and problems we had when we professionalized our product management. There was no clear understanding of a product vision and its connection to the product strategy. These are also common questions and there is no clear answer to what a product vision should look like. Everyone has to find a way to answer these questions and define how they want to shape their product vision and strategy. For us, an organization-wide solution was needed to formalize and standardize our product management approach.

In the end, a Product Vision will guide you and your team through the product development process. It is a guiding north star or a condensed, inspirational sentence that highlights the essence of the product. As such, it inspires and guides the team in their daily work, development, and operation of the product.
